‘PINK DRINK’ BRAIN CANCER TREATMENT ROLLED OUT ACROSS NHS
A ‘Pink Drink’ brain cancer treatment has been pinned as a game-changer, as it gets the go ahead for roll out across the NHS. It was championed by Baroness Tessa Jowell, who advocated for the treatment and fought for it’s wider use within the health service. Baroness Jowell sadly passed in May 2018, but her legacy remains as the treatment will now be more widely available across the UK. The treatment uses fluorescent dye to make cancer cells glow under UV light, making it more traceable and treatable.
‘HOW TO BE OUTSTANDING’ CAREFOUND HOMECARE TELLS ALL

LOVE ISLAND INCREASES AFTERCARE FOLLOWING 2 SUICIDES
The popular summer show has been under scrutiny recently following the deaths of two of it’s contestants in the form of suicide. Love Island has been in the spotlight after questions have circulated about the way it looks after the Islanders and their mental health. ITV have now announced that they have enhanced their aftercare package to ensure all Islanders are supported properly before, after and throughout the show. The support includes more psychological support, finance management and social media training.
Social Media & Mental Health Blog
Mental Health Awareness Week commenced on 13th May 2019. It aims to raise awareness and end the stigma around the discussion of mental health and promote a more open forum across the world.
There is also an increased discussion around Social Media and whether there is a correlation between the rise of use and the rise of mental health issues.

Age Scotland say older people are waiting too long for care
Age Scotland’s research has found that more than 4 in 10 older people requiring “substantial” or critical care last year waited more than the 6 weeks set down in national guidelines.
They have been featured on ITV News and many other media websites today, as their report shines a light on the problems within social care.

Exposed: Secure Hospital in Durham exposed by Panorama for appalling abuse of patients
As many as sixteen care workers have been suspended and a police investigation has been launched into Whorlton Hall Secure Hospital in County Durham, following Panorama’s documentary into the abuse of vulnerable patients there.
‘Undercover Hospital Abuse Scandal’ featured a BBC reporter working there undercover for 2 months, while recording footage of the psychological and physical abuse that the patients went through.
