The President of ADASS Glen Garrod wrote to the London Evening Standard stating that given the high volume of EU members working in social care, the sector would struggle to cope in continuing to care unless there is a guarantee that carers can work in the UK with no disruption. 92 YR OLD ANNIE RECEIVES VISIT FROM PENGUINS
A care home opened in December last year has fulfilled the dream of one of their residents, 92 year old Annie Thelwell, by having her favourite animal visit her at the home. A company called Amazing Animals arranged the visit of penguins Pringle and Charlie, so Annie could feed them in real life. Read more on this heartwarming story from The Carer.
2 WEEKS TO INNOVATIVE CARE EXHIBITION IN EXETER
Next month, the South West will hold its first innovation and technology conference since 2008. The Innovative Care Exhibition, hosted by the Care Manager’s Network, will be held on 13th March at Westpoint, Exeter. Can cannabis medicine help dementia?
A trial being performed by Kings College London, funded by Alzheimers UK for around £300,000 will see the residents of a dementia care home treated with a form of cannabis medicine mouth-spray, to aid agitation and aggression. There has been no new treatments for Alzheimers for 15 years, so the charity is looking to explore their options.

How Citizens Advice streamlined their communications
In 2017, we sat down with Citizens Advice Northumberland, to discuss the day to day running of the organisation and how telecoms processes and technology could be improved to improve the organisations ability to support more people more effectively. At the time, they were using 3 separate traditional fixed line phone systems, contracted individually to each site/cluster of offices, with little to no room for expansion or movement. The system was dated and we soon found that users were restricted to what they could do for their customers.
